![]() My co-workers are great, they enhances my job in the sense that we recognize that we are all working to achieving the overall objectives of the organization, and as such we depend on each other to ensure that assigned work is completed and provide the necessary support where necessary and when required. Management provide the vision of the organization and channels the resources, whether human or otherwise in achieving these objectives. One of the things I learnt early is that my human resource is my greatest asset, and as such they are not only to be told how valuable they are but they should also be treated as valuable staff by the organization. But hearing one pilot say "thank you" or "good job" or "excellent controlling" meant the most to us and made the salary - more.Ī typical day at work includes setting the major objectives that must be achieve within that particular day, a briefing is held with my staff which gives me an opportunity to provide updates to them and for them to share their experiences or provide feedback. ![]() Thousands of hours incident free can be over-written by 3 seconds of an error. That feeling of accomplishment never ever gets old. The best part of this job was just the rush of controlling air traffic.the thrill of having aircraft all over the skies like bees, and then with your voice and skill, line them up like ducks for landing. One gets a bit used to it, but it never really becomes pleasant. The most difficult part of the job there was perhaps night shifts which sometimes caused havoc to the circadian rhythm. There are efforts by several groups in the company to engage in activities out of work hours and this fosters camaraderie and builds morale. ![]() The workplace culture is generally good and well established. All of them are approachable and generally respectful of employees and most will be willing to extend a hand when requested. ![]() The management team is not perfect but vastly better than any other I have experienced before or since. I learned a lot about aviation while employed there and I built many life-long relationships and associations. The pay package is not at the level that it should be, but it is competitive with other positions in the industry in Jamaica. JCAA trains its own air traffic controllers from start to finish, paying the trainees along the way. Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority is a statutory body under the watch of the Ministry of Transport. ![]()
